Embedded in our courses is the encouragement of learner independence, learner autonomy critical thinking skills & contains elements to be found in established courses taught in UK British Council accredited schools.

Once enrolled on an Imperial English course, the student will be working from the Imperial English UK learning app. By replacing books with an app, we are ensuring that students still get the invaluable and interactive benefits of face to face teaching but also the smart to use advanced technology for a greater learning experience!

THE IMPERIAL ENGLISH LEARNING APP CONTAINS :

Administration Process

After you are given access to the Imperial English UK app, the following steps will occur to help you and your student with the learning process and ensure that it is beneficial for all parties:


Step : 1

You will receive free training on how to use the app effectively

Step : 2

You will be able to access students’ work records to check their progress

Step : 3

The notifications feature will send you work to be marked

Step : 4

You will also be able to look at students’ completed tasks as well as ones that have yet to be completed to check their progress

Step : 5

You will be able to use an efficient search system to search for information based on individual assignments, topics, courses and levels, or by searching for specific students on the app

Step : 6

All lesson preparation will be laid out clearly and ready to use in the digital Teacher’s Book, so you will be able to concentrate more on providing an effective learning experience rather than setting up for lessons

Step : 7

You will be able to switch from the Teacher’s Book, to the Course Book, to the Practice Book in one click!

Step : 8

You will mark assignments and assessments, including spoken tasks from the audio recording feature

Step : 9

You will mark all assessments, and after the final summative assessment, you will decide if the student is required to redo any tasks to boost their mark before reattempting the assessment.

After you are given access to the Imperial English UK app, the following steps will occur to help you with the learning process and ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience:

Once you have passed your final exam and all of your work meets a satisfactory standard, you will receive your certificate!

When organising the EDA for students to take to test their level of English, please note:

  • The number of learners.
  • The availability of rooms/space.
  • The availability of tablets that are sufficiently charged.
  • The availability of headphones.
  • The availability of internet connection.
  • The availability of paper and pens to allow students to make notes during the grammar, reading, and writing sections of the assessment.
  • During the speaking test, administrators should remember to ensure that one room is available for each individual speaking appointment, and to separate each speaking appointment by 25 minutes.
  • Please note that students are NOT PERMITTED to make notes for the listening & speaking section of the assessment.

The assessment should take learners between 2.5 hours to 3 hours to complete. It is recommended you provide them with a short break in between.

FAQ’s

When and where can students take the English Diagnostic Assessment?

It is up to the academy to organise the location / date / time of the EDA.

How much does the English Diagnostic Assessment cost?

There is no cost for the EDA, however Academies may wish to charge students a minimum fee for their time and services offered.

How often can learners take the English Diagnostic Assessment?

The EDA takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours to complete. Depending on how the Academy Administrator organises the day e.g. with breaks etc. it could take longer.

How often can learners take the English Diagnostic Assessment?

Before registering any student on an Imperial English UK Academy course, they must sit the EDA. In most cases students will register on a course soon after completing the EDA, if this is not the case and they delay the course start by 10-12 weeks they should be asked to re-sit the EDA.
The same rule applies for students who have completed a level of study with the Imperial English UK Academy and take a gap of 10-12 weeks, they should be asked to sit the EDA again to determine their current level of English.
Once registered on any course they do not require to sit the EDA assessment.

What are key features of the Notification section?

Key features of the app include a notification section where you can keep up to date with course progress, marked work and teacher feedback and upcoming Imperial English events.

Can the Notification section be downloaded onto my mobile phone?

All these notifications can be accessed when the app is not running through the connect feature which is available to download directly onto your mobile phone.

What are key features of the Work Records section?

The work record organises students work into tasks that are completed, pending or need. All this work is compiled into a digital portfolio that enables students to track their progress and make study plans very easily.

What are key features of the Note section?

The notes section allows students to write down their thoughts, ideas and pieces of information that are not directly related to the topic or task.

What are key features of the Assessment section?

The assessment feature is the formative assessment tool that will be used to complete the end of course tests.

What are key features of the Vocabulary section?

The vocabulary feature is where any new vocabulary can be added and referred to by the student.

What are key features of the Audio recording section?

All audio used throughout the course is recorded by native English speakers. This is to model correct pronunciation for students. Students are able to practice their pronunciation and fluency by recording themselves on the app.

Can I use my own tablet to access my work ?

Yes, you can access your work from any Android tablet by using your personal ID and password.

Can I send homework from my own tablet?

Yes, you can send your homework from anywhere using any Android tablet by using your personal ID and password.

If a student cheats, they would be assigned a level of study that is not suitable for them. Academy Administrators should ensure that students are asked to put away their electronic devices in their bags, with silent mode switched on so that other students taking the test are not disturbed.

Every student will need to be provided with their own set of headphones to listen to the audio instructions.

How is the English Diagnostic Assessment marked?

Once the student has completed the EDA, Academy Administrator needs to log into the Academy Management Portal and in the EDA section assign the student to a teacher to complete the marking process. So when the teacher logs in to the EDA Teacher App that particular student's record should be available ready for marking.

How long does it take to receive the results?

This is dependent on the individual Academy and the time taken by teachers to complete the marking process.

Where can learners find their test results?

Students will be informed of their results via an email and can access the information on the EDA Student App.
